GUIDE FOR NEW PLAYERS
YOUR FIRST MINUTE
Most first runs end in the first world. Here is what kills them, and the habits that get you past it.

A run in progress: the score top left, hearts and the line of creatures top right.
TWO MOVES
Everything in Kai's Greedy Loop is done with one button. A tap changes lane: Kai moves one lane over, and when he reaches the edge of the road the next tap brings him back the other way. A hold charges a dash: keep your finger down, watch the ring under Kai fill, and let go to throw him forward head first. On a keyboard both are the space bar (the up arrow and enter work too); with a mouse, both are the left button.
WHY FIRST RUNS END
Almost every first run that ends early ends the same way: a red wall in Kai's lane that the player saw too late. The road comes toward you fast, and at the start of a run the camera sits close behind Kai, so the far end of the road is only on screen for a moment.
The game gives you a second way to see it. A small mark rides over Kai's head whenever his own lane is blocked somewhere ahead, and it disappears the moment the lane is clear. Learn to watch that mark instead of hunting the screen for walls, and most early deaths go away.
FIVE HABITS
First, tap early. A lane change takes a moment, and the second tap you needed is the one that is too late. Second, read X and the ring: in every world, an X over a lane means that lane is about to close, and a ring on the road means go here. Third, do not release your creatures the moment you have some. A release pays more the more you have gathered since the last one, so fill the line while the road is kind. Fourth, dash when changing lane is not enough: the dash works even with an empty line, and it breaks whatever is in front of Kai while it lasts. Fifth, when RELEASE THEM appears, the line is full at ten, and every creature you pass after that is wasted.
AFTER A DEATH
The result screen names what killed you: a wall, a drifter, the gate, the magma, the rain. Read it before you press retry, and find the answer to it on this site: every hazard has its tell, and every tell is described on the page for the world where it first appears. The next run starts at the top of the Moss Ring with the same opening lesson, so the thing that killed you will come again, and this time you will know.
